Group think?

Manz and Neck (1997) stated Groupthink focuses on negative aspects of team decision making. Janis (1982) proposed the presence of a number of specific antecedent conditions increases the probability that the group will demonstrate symptoms representative of groupthink. Manz and Neck (1997) specified the tendency of groupthink: direct social pressure placed on a member who argues against the group’s shared beliefs, members’ self-censorship of their own thoughts or concerns that deviate from the group consensus, an illusion of the groups’ invulnerability to failure shared illusion of unanimity, the emergence of self-appointed mind guards that screen out information from outside the group that does not agree with the general group consensus, collective efforts to rationalize decisions, stereotyped views of enemy or competing leaders as weak or incompetent, an unquestioned belief in the group’s inherent morality. Moorhead (1986) added these symptoms will lead to observable defects in the group’s decision-making processes that might result in poor quality decisions. Manz and Neck (1997) argue self-managing teams are especially vulnerable to groupthink because they tend to be cohesive and provide a breeding ground for conformity – the two prime ingredients for groupthink. Is there a scenario where groupthink can be considered beneficial?

I think it depends on the what one may stand to risk and the the cost. From a business/secular perspective, this idea may be deemed beneficial for the sake of efficiency. However, this idea may not be the preferred paradigm for leaders that may have more to risk. In businesses, the culture thrives on taking risks, making losses, and learning from those mistakes. Many fortune 500 companies also think "good debates" are a way of achieving the best results. I find that working with non-profits and churches a form of 'groupthink' Is sometimes practiced. Personally, I don't find it beneficial. Challenge promotes growth. In some cases conformity can be detrimental. Thanks for the question.

I did start typing and will finish tomorrow. Remember I said there was a lesson on heaven and hell and on the spirit and the soul? Well, I was mistaken. It is one lesson and it is called life and death:the spirit and the soul. I misunderstood. They are supposed to play it, this Shabbat. I was looking at what lesson to listen to next, today. I think I will surprise you. :) well, good night, love you! ~AshantiYah

That makes us a family in Yah.There is no one else I talk about Yah and Yahoshua with E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y.lol, I love you.

This lesson has answered my questions of seeing my grandma and also my sister said she saw grandma by my door. Now, I know why I felt terror from seeing her. It looked like grandma but not in her eyes. I haven't slept in the dark since then, on purpose. Even when we had many hurricanes in 2004, I had several candles and my trusty flashlight with me. Now I sleep with the television on and volume low or it may be off but my door is open because the living room light is on and shines down the hall. I just had a thought, my mother insists on that light being on every night even if she is at work. She has always said because you don't want a man to be in here without you seeing. I guess the same goes for evil spirits, they like darkness. I just finished the first hour of the lesson. Later

Good morning baby, I will begin typing today.

Anonymous said...

I'm still typing. I don't have much more to go. I should be done be the early a.m maybe 12 or 1 a.m.? I don't know. The last hour of the lesson were questions and answers. I will post that on Sunday when I post the Shabbat notes. The Q & A were not questions from the lesson...I just looked at the q & a notes and there is one question about the lesson so I will post that one tonight. Later

The lesson this week is an archived lesson called 'the spirit of the scribes and pharisees'. I don't know which one should be next. I saw 'speaking in tongues', a series on Paul and the laws, and I saw a lesson on the grace period. And I still haven't done the deception of ha shatan. Is there one you prefer to be next?
