Discipline in a Long-Distance Race

Hebrews 12

1-3Do you see what this means—all these pioneers who blazed the way, all these veterans cheering us on? It means we'd better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we're in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he's there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!

It is heaven that allows us to withstand the pain!

Politics

Politics is when people choose their words and actions based on how they want others to react rather than based on what they really think.

--Patrick Lencioni  "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team"

This is a concise way of determining whether you are manipulating people or not!

Heaven!

Suffering is many things, but in the end it is God's invitation to us to trust Him, and to look forward to place where all suffering will forever be replaced by joy—Heaven.

— Randy Alcorn

I am now reading Randy Alcorn's Book "Heaven." In it, he deals with the point that there is so little talked about Heaven in our seminaries, and in our Churches. As a result, he says no one knows much about their eternal destination nor is anyone looking forward to going there. He notes the saying "You are so heavenly minded that you are no earthly good," as a reason why most people don't focus on teaching about it, yet his point is historically the people who have done the most for this world are the ones who have had their focus on the next---Heaven. If what he is saying is a truism, then unless Christians being to set their mind on things above [Heaven], the church will not have its maximum impact upon the earth!

Salvation!

And if they "accept Christ as their Savior" and do not understand that God exists as an infinite-personal God, and do not understand that man has been made in the image of God and has value, and do not understand that man's dilemma is not metaphysical because he is small but moral because man revolted against God in a space-time Fall, in all probably they are not saved!

The art of fund raising by Bishop McBath!

  1. People give to a vision!
  2. People want an opportunity to give.
  3. The opportunity to give must be specific.
  4. People want to be recognized that they gave!
  5. The fund raiser must be bold in asking for the funds!

Find the argument!

I have come to realize no matter the subject, if you don't know the argument behind the subject, you will never truly understand the subject. Evolution vs intelligent design, Calvin vs Armenian, Smith vs Marx, etc. I realize if I understand the seminal [original] argument, I really don't need to do a vast amount of research on the topic. Understanding the arguments help you to discover the logical conclusions of both views. If you understand the conclusions, you can form your own opinion! Only after you form you own opinion based upon both sides of the argument do you truly understand the subject!

Two Contents, Two Realities

There are four things which I think are absolutely necessary if we as Christians are going to meet the need of our age and the overwhelming pressure we are increasingly facing. Thy are two contents and two realities:

The First Content: Sound Doctrine
The Second Content: Honest Answers to Honest Questions
The First Reality: True Spirituality
The Second Reality: The Beauty of Human Relationships

Francis A. Schaeffer -- Two Contents, Two Realities

It is so interesting that Dr. Schaeffer knew 30 years ago what we in the church need to focus on today to save the sinner and edify the believer, which is truth and authenticity!
